Altai Tavan Bogd (Ulaankhus sum, Bayan-Ulgii Province)

Altai Tavan Bogd in the Mongolian Altai mountain range represents the highest mountains in Mongolia. For this reason, it is referred to as the "roof of Mongolia." Tavan Bogd Mountain is located in Ulaankhus sum, Bayan-Ulgii Province. Tavan Bogd has five main peaks and hosts Mongolia's three largest glaciers: Potanin Glacier, Alexander Glacier, and Grane Glacier. The largest of these is Potanin Glacier, which is approximately 14 kilometers long. First climbed by Mongolian mountaineers in 1956, it has since been scaled by over 700 climbers and has become a favorite destination for both domestic and international mountaineers. In 1996, the basins of Altai Tavan Bogd Mountain, Hoton, Hurgan, Dayan lakes, and the Khovd, Khartsalaa, Tsagalsalaa, Songinot, and Yolt rivers were placed under state protection as the Altai Tavan Bogd National Park. In 2012, Altai Tavan Bogd Mountain was designated as a State-Worshipped Mountain.
