Gobi Gurvan Saikhan (Bayandalai and Sevrei sums, Umnugovi Province)

The Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park consists of three major ranges—Baruunsaikhan, Dundsaikhan, and Zuunsaikhan—stretching 180 kilometers westward from Dalanzadgad, the center of Umnugovi Province. The highest of these is Zuunsaikhan Mountain, standing at 2,846 meters above sea level. It encompasses the Gobi Gurvansaikhan and Sevrei mountain ranges located across the territories of Bayandalai, Sevrei, Bulgan, Khurmen, and Gurvantes sums of Umnugovi Province, along with the valleys between them, the Khongor Sand Dunes, and the Zulgantai sand wetlands. Sevrei Mountain stands at 2,548 meters and Zuulun Mountain at 2,300 meters, with depressed valleys at their bases containing sand, saline crusts, salt marshes, and small lakes. In late April during spring, the Mongolian sakura (wild almond) blooms in the Gobi Gurvansaikhan mountains. It is home to wildlife listed in the Mongolian Red Book, including argali, ibex, snow leopards, goitered gazelles, marbled polecats, stone martens, lynx, Pallas's cats, corsac foxes, fat-tailed pygmy jerboas, ground squirrels, and white-tailed gazelles.
