Gobi Saxaul Tree

The Gobi saxaul tree (Haloxylon ammodendron), also known in some regions as black saxaul, grows across the vast plains and sand dunes of the Gobi and is one of the most important plant species in Mongolia’s Gobi ecosystem. Adapted to arid conditions and extreme climates, saxaul forests are regarded as the “guardians of the Gobi,” helping to stabilize shifting sands and prevent desertification.
