Bogd Khan Mountain (Zuunmod, Tuv Province and Ulaanbaatar City)

Bogd Khan Mountain is located within the territories of Tuv Province and Ulaanbaatar City in Mongolia, belonging to the basin of the Khentii mountain range. It is one of the historic, state-worshipped mountains of Mongolia and one of the oldest specially protected areas in both Mongolia and the world. Its highest peak is Tsetsee Gun, standing at 2,268 meters. During the Yuan Dynasty in 1294, it was granted specially protected status, and since 2004, it has been designated for state worship by decree of the President of Mongolia. It falls within the southern Khentii circle, which is a semi-humid altitudinal zonation of the Khangai climate macro-region. Mountain meadow soils are distributed across the flat, rocky peaks of the mountain, while taiga soils are found further down. Forest-free northern and southern slopes, as well as wide valleys, feature steppe soils. Taiga soils occupy the majority of its area. Although separated from the main Khentii range, due to elevation and rugged relief, the dominant soils include alpine meadow, mountain permafrost, sub-arctic taiga, dark forest, chernozem, dark chestnut, valley dark chestnut, and meadow soils.
