Burkhan Buudai (Biger sum, Gobi-Altai Province)

Burkhan Buudai Mountain is a uniquely scenic mountain located across the territories of Biger, Tsogt, and Khaliun sums in Gobi-Altai Province. It was placed under special state protection by Resolution No. 43 of the State Great Khural in 1996 with the aim of preserving long-standing traditions of worship and ensuring proper resource management and protection. The supreme peak of Burkhan Buudai Mountain stands at 3,765 meters and is permanently snow-capped. The main body and valleys of the mountain feature extensive scree slopes alongside glacial landforms, terraces, and cirques left by ancient glaciations. The Urd River, Dund River, Khojd River, and Ust Chatsran River originate from Burkhan Buudai. It grows numerous medicinal plants—such as saussurea (vanguard), golden root, gentian, and blue-white gentian—as well as berries like sea buckthorn and cotoneaster. Animals and birds such as argali, ibex, snow leopards, snowcocks, lammergeiers, and griffon vultures are abundant. Burkhan Buudai features remarkable sheer precipitous cliffs and rock canyons of unique formation, such as the Thousand Graves of Khyar Lake and the White Gate of Üert, making its extraordinary appearance a wondrous creation of Mother Nature.
